“And the beat goes on” goes the song , and so here we are in the last days of summer. The days are growing shorter but the sunsets are even more beautiful. Gardens are tired but still showy. The weather begins to change as the air gently cools for evenings and early mornings. Even my feathered friends seem calmer; no longer the frenzied search for mates or the sounds of wee nestlings. But there is still colour..ever changing, ever evolving with the seasons.
My friend Heather has this to say about Colour:
My work in my upcoming show “A Riot of Colour” expresses my joy in the simple beauty of Colour. Whether by itself or laid down next to others, Colours mixed together create a magic all their own. In this world I think we could all use a bit of this joy; the joy of colour. It puts bounce in my brushes and takes me to my happy place.”
I want to share a story about our Featured Artist for September. Here is an Artist who is driven and passionate, not just about her work, but pretty much everything she does. And she is determined. I once went to a Paint the Town of Annapolis Royal with Heather, a plein air event. As the first day dawned on our adventure, so did the curse of the Rain Gods fall down upon all of us Artists.
While ninety percent of us took up the offer of a sheltered front porch or the generous offer of inside a retail store, my Friend Heather just ignored the pelting rain. I watched as she set up a tent of umbrellas outside in an alcove between two buildings in the torrential downpour and began to work. Methodically she arranged her brushes, paints, easel …everything she would need to accomplish whatever it was she was looking at.
That day Heather sold her work … I had stayed inside…lapping up the comfort of a dry space. I sold nothing.
I think it’s all in the “Colour”.
See you at the Opening for my Friend Heather Crout, one of our most wonderful and Colourful Artists! The Reception is Sunday, September 8th from 3-5pm
